Denim Dollars

If you come into Dunkerton School on a Friday, you may see some staff members wearing jeans.  This is not simply casual dress, this is a worthy cause.  It is called Denim Dollars and is sponsored by the Dunkerton Education Association. The program started in 1996 as a fundraising package to promote the school.  Over the years, the fundraising efforts were halted, but Denim Dollars is up and running again.  For the remainder of the school year, over $1,000 has been pledged by staff members to participate.  Since the program began, donations have been made to the Dunkerton Community Hall, the Dewar Hall, and the Salvation Army.  When RAGBRAI came through Dunkerton, the Dunkerton Education Association donated all of their proceeds to the other groups.  Money has also been used to help purchase the electronic sign in front of the school and money has been donated towards the Dunkerton welcome signs on Canfield Road and Dunkerton Road.  The goal of the program is for the school to "give back" to the community in appreciation for all of the ways that the community supports the school. So if you see a staff member wearing jeans on a Friday, this person is supporting the Denim Dollars program which is a worthy cause not only for the school, but also for the community.
