Dunkerton Community School District serves as the focal point of the community. The three-story high school building was constructed in 1921 and was showcased as the outstanding rural school within the area. Today's students benefit from that tradition of quality learning as the district continues educating, elevating, and enlightening.

The district has three computer labs and has built a local-area network (LAN) connecting every classroom, computer lab, and office. The computer labs and media centers are also available to use ten hours per week outside of the regular school day for student and community. During that time, staff supervise the labs and provide guided assistance, as requested.

The district is organized as a PK-6 and a 7-12. Students are provided personalized attention. Class size is generally small with the average teacher/student ratio of 1 to 28.

Dunkerton's elementary program offers preschool through second-grade students developmentally appropriate activities. Kindergarten through sixth-grade curriculum stresses student academic achievement. Staff encourage students to set personal goals and assist them in achieving those goals.

At the secondary level, junior high students are provided an academically-rich environment that stresses the fundamentals, yet challenges the students. High school students have the opportunity to select courses in general educational, school-to-work, vocational, and college preparatory curricula. Within easy access, are two four-year colleges and a community college where students may enroll in college classes under the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Act. In this program, students earn college credit while in high school, and the district pays for tuition and books.

In addition to outstanding academic programs, the district offers students an array of co-curricular activities in athletics and fine arts. Students may participate in mixed chorus, boys and girls glee, swing choir, concert band, jazz band, marching band, pep band, drama, large and small group speech, football, volleyball, baseball, softball, and boys and girls cross country, basketball, track, and golf.

Five community members serve on the Board of Directors; their primary focus is setting district policies and goals. Many parents and community members volunteer their time and talents on the board advisory committee which insures that student educational success is stressed at Dunkerton Community Schools.
